Have any of my fellow non-24 sufferes found a medication or an herbal supplement f some sort that helps reduce nightmares? I'm taking melatonin, and from what I've read Hetlioz is pretty much just a proscription form of it, so...
Hi.
I don't know anything about medication about this but personally my nightmares reduced dramatically since I started sleeping with the radio on during the night.
I never liked sleeping in complete silence, so I like having something to listen to during the night.
I am not saying that I don't have bad dreams sometimes, but they don't have very often now.
I was having more of them when I was sleeping in silence.
If you don't like music or spoken material during the night, you could try nature recordings with birds etc.
If they help you I can send you some of my own if you like. I mean recordings I recorded myself.
I was very lucky about this, because my wife doesn't like sleeping in complete silence either so that's good. I would be in trouble if she was one of these people who wake up easily and they want silence to sleep with.
Nikos
I don't know if it would help with nightmares or not, but a small electric fan on a low setting puts me right out.
People who take melatonin, often report that they have nightmares/weird dreams.
Yeah. I used to do the music thing but I really can't anymore because of the hearing loss. Can't wear the aids all night. I might roll over and break one or something.
Also I take Prozac and Buspirone. Tried easing off them to see if that would help but the withdrawal effects were absolutely awful.
I know this sounds weired, but sometimes I have noticed that my bad dreams are brought on by the foods I eat that day. Especially when I eat Chinese food or spicey foods. You might google this subject and see if you get ideas from others with the same problem as you are having. Sweet dreams my friend. Or at least, better ones.
Yeah I've noticed that too. I eat a lot more fresh fruit vegies these days.
at post 7, I always wondered why they said no cheese before bed.
guess now I know
Lucid dreaming might be a way to cope with your nightmares. It's a learnable skill, at least for some people. If you know you're dreaming you can change the dream.
Tried it without success.
On the other hand, sometimes I realize I'm in that state in between sleep and wakefulness and then I can do the astral travel thing. Kinda fun.
